a wedding weekend

last weekend three of my best girls came to the bay for our friend jae’s wedding. it was such a treat to be able to spend saturday and sunday morning with them.

we met at the oakland temple under the blue, blue sky overlooking the bay – it was such an incredibly clear day! i stole these pictures from megan. i could hardly stand how pretty it was! i did initatories while megs, lisa and jen went to jae and amy’s sealing.DSC_0442DSC_0445
we went to zachary’s pizza in rockridge (the best deep dish of your life, guaranteed) with a bunch of friends of the bride and groom, and then we headed across the bay bridge to the city. i’ll never tire of the view from the bridge and the feeling that you get entering san francisco from above the bay.

we got to dolores park just as the sun was kissing the skyline goodnight. the views were spectacular! naturally, we had a little photoshoot.
DSC_0474DSC_0485DSC_0488i love them. especially when we do the “winky frowny.” we drove across the golden gate bridge as it lit up.

jae and amy (both of whom were in my
ward in sf) had their wedding reception at
this neat barn in
santa rosa. it was
such a great party,
and the dance floor
was thoroughly used.
i was so happy to see
my friends so happily
married and to
reunite with lots of
good faces from the
city. it’s so fun when different worlds and groups of friends
collide. i felt so filled
up with the goodness
of human connections.
and, i just love love
weddings.

  2. Hi Charity! I've read your blog for a while and I love it! I'm also a 20-something who loves entertaining and expressing myself dramatically as you do, so I feel like we have some things in common! I love reading about your fun adventures.

I was wondering, what are initatories? I'm not Mormon and I've ever heard the term before.

    Thanks!

  3. tess...great question! it's funny - i was actually thinking just today that i probably should have explained that in this post!

there are several things that happen inside a temple. one is wedding ceremonies, which we call sealings. another is endowment ceremonies, where patrons make promises with god and renew their commitment to him. a third is initiatory ceremonies, which happen before an individual participates in an endowment ceremony, when we are washed and anointed and blessed, just as in ancient temples we read about in the bible.

when i go to the temple, i can choose which of these ordinances to participate in (after i have initially done them for myself, i can act as proxy for an individual who is dead and did not have the opportunity to participate in these ordinances in their lifetime). on this particular day, i chose to participate in initiatory ordinances.

because the temple is so sacred to us as members of the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints, we don't talk much about the specifics of these ordinances outside of the temple.

i feel god's great love for all his children, regardless of where or when they lived, in the temple. i love that i get to take a break from the crazy world and focus my attention on making promises and receiving blessings from heaven.

totally let me know if you have any other questions! you can also check out this website: http://www.lds.org/church/temples

  4. Thanks for the explanation! It's beautiful to see how you are so inspired by your faith. :)

I found your blog through Shawni's (I read Saydi's too) and absolutely love the stories about your family... you all have such a great sense of priorities and what's important! I get entertaining and travel inspiration from you (love reading about your awesome trips!), and mothering inspiration from your sisters (lots of mothering inspiration—they're basically superstars!).

Thanks for sharing a bit of your life on here!
