five postpartum favourites

everyone’s experience with healing and adjusting after having a baby is so different, and those first weeks are often very, very challenging. but i strongly believe that the postpartum period can be a really beautiful, sanctifying, precious time in a a woman’s life. (i wrote a bit about this back here .) this time around, for me, it has been trickier in many ways to savor this unique slice of life … but i am finding joy and sweetness and wonder everyday. i’m definitely no expert, but just from my own experience i have two main tips for new moms: first ,  relax . you’ll get so much conflicting advice and there will be so many tiny worries and you may experience a strong urge to control things. just follow your instincts, chill out, and try to enjoy. this time will go by really fast (even if it definitely doesn’t feel like that in the moment!). and all the hard bits are part of the adventure. second , prioritize taking care of your body, mind and spirit. work with your partner...

seventeen hours old

these photos were taken the afternoon after gabriel was born. i am so glad we have these beautiful images of him as a  brand new newborn … he has already changed so much in the last eighteen days! the sheer sweetness of the very first day of a life on earth absolutely cannot be captured … but these pictures are a worthy attempt.  we love this little soul wildly and we are so glad that he has joined our family.      ^^ having grammie here with us during and after gabriel’s birth was sublime. ^^   a few more of mo the bro:   …and we’ve been working on not grabbing baby’s face every since the wright brothers first met :) >>  my family: !!!!!!!! <3<3<3 !!!!!!! <3<3<3

moses meets his brother

the day after our gabriel was born (when he was still very much nameless!), our photographer friend kami came over to our home to take some newborn/family pictures for us. moses had spent the birth day and that night and most of the following day with some friends of ours that were incredibly kind to take great care of him. we coordinated the timing so that kami would arrive at our flat just before moses came home - so the wright brothers' very first encounter was captured. we will treasure these images forever! ^^ waiting for big brother to arrive and meet the baby he’d been pointing out in my belly all those months! ^^ ^^ seventeen hours old. ^^ ^^ grammie brought moses in and he was pretty excited! ^^ ^^ it was pretty amazing to see the wheels turning in little mo’s head when he saw the baby. he pointed at my belly and said “baby,” and then pointed at his little brother and said “baby,” putting it all together. ^^ ^^ pretty much immediately moses was ready to give l...
