london baby coming soon!

while my photographer sister saydi was in town last week, the boy and i had her take some maternity pictures for us! it was kind of an ordeal trying to figure out when and how to take the photos considering different schedules and locations and etc., but we ended up having such a fun and lovely monday evening together (and with my sister saren), chasing the good light. we spent some time right outside st. thomas’s hospital, where our son will be born (in less than two months!!!), and some time around our flat and in trafalgar square. the weather was just perfect and we were all feeling so captivated and endeared by this spectacular city.

saydi just sent me the photos this afternoon and i absolutely love how they turned out! she’s incredible! i had the hardest time trying to decide just a nice selection of the pictures to post on my blog – so many fun and beautiful and good ones! click through and see how terribly i did at narrowing down…

we are sure excited about our london baby coming soon. he’s moving around in my belly so much, my nesting instincts are kicking in like crazy, and as we’ve begun to make more logistical preparations, it has started to really get real! i am so grateful for the beautiful life that the boy and i share, and that we are able to grow our family in this amazing city. six weeks to go!

  2. Beautiful pics Charity! I'm really curious how the citizenship thing is going to work. Will your son only be a UK citizen because he'll be born there, or will he get dual citizenship because you and Ian are US citizens?

    1. thank you!

our son will be a us citizen only (because he is born to us citizen parents) - at least for now! it used to be that a baby born in the uk is automatically a uk citizen, but the law was changed a couple of decades ago. ian would really like to gain citizenship for our entire family eventually, but that would require us to establish permanent residency (after five years) and then apply for citizenship after an additional year. we'll see how long we are here! any child born to us *after* we are permanent residents will automatically be a dual citizen.

    2. If I can put my two cents in (for what it's worth, as a complete stranger), if your family is planning on spending as long in the UK as you've indicated, it probably would be a bonus for you all long-term to have dual-citizenship. My mother was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada when she was in her 20s. She became a Candian citizen when I was about 10, and it was one of her proudest moments.

  3. Very cool! Thanks for the response. He's a lucky boy to grow up with two home countries, regardless of his citizenship :)

  5. Love them all, but I have to favorites besides the first one. The one outside the London Phone booth and the one close to the end where Ian's face is all scrunched up in a giddy smile.

    1. the orange one i got at a clothing swap about five years ago - haha! i think it's from banana republic. it has never really fit me very well on top, but i love the way it falls, and since ian was coming straight from work in his suit to start snapping the photos, i figured i might as well go formal :)

the striped dress is from asos maternity, and it's a nursing dress too!
