straight from heaven

on sunday, i got to go experience a little taste of heaven in my beloved friend abby's brand new baby boy.

catherine and i went to the hospital to meet the tiny, perfect boy right before i had to go to the airport to fly back to california.

i have to say, i have incredible timing with my dearest friend's babies being born. cath and abby have four kids between them, and i've met all four of them within 50 or so hours of their births, even though i live in a different state! (and have had similar good timing with other friends). it has just always worked out just perfect so i could be there soon after birth, and gosh it is just the sweetest, sweetest thing to be with my friends that are like sisters and their babies. it really feels like heaven. {here, here, and here are my other experiences meeting catherine and abby's babies}

i am so grateful for these friends. abby was induced so baby boy would come in time for her family to settle in a bit before my wedding. catherine had a super long engagement so that i could get home from my mission and be at her wedding. we just have this deep, rich bond that requires involvement in huge life milestones :) i love these women (and their growing families!) so so so much.

  1. Love this tradition! Great picture too! Ab is too gorgeous right after having a baby. And I love your hair!

  2. Your friend had her baby induced to make sure she could go to your wedding? Just when you think you've heard everything....unbelievable.

  3. sorry, i should have been more clear! here were several factors influencing the decision to be induced, but a best friend's wedding was among them!

  4. Anyone who thinks that a best friend's wedding is among the reasons to have labor induced is too silly and immature to be having children.

  5. I love that you are so close with your friends! Many of us only wish we had such deep and fulfilling relationships. Having had five children myself, the decision to induce a baby or not induce is small in the grand scheme of things. What will matter more to that baby will be having a mother with a heart full of love, as evidenced by her loyalty and devotion to those closest to her.

  6. Charity PLEASE tell me you are joking she had the labor induced to go to your wedding!!!!!! That is beyond ridiculous!!!!

  7. What!?!? One of the great lessons of motherhood is that our children's growth and development does not always fit neatly into our time tables.

  8. I find it difficult to believe that a reputable doctor or hospital would factor in a friends' wedding when deciding to induce labor.

  9. okay, guys, simmer down. i am pretty uncomfortable about my friend's personal decisions for her family being scrutinized here. lesson learned for me as far as what i write in a post. but it is just not okay to judge a situation for which you have very little context in this way. this decision was not influenced by me and had the complexities of any decision that parents make in the best interest of their family.

  10. Do people not realize how blessed we are you share your life journey with us. And that we do not know everything about you and your friends we also learn about. I think it is amazing that your friends labour enables her being at your wedding, but also know that you are not Sharing someone elses birthing circumstances. People need to not jump to conclusions and judgements ,based on a snippet of yours and your friends lives. Keep smiling, and many blessings for the next few weeks as the countdown behind xx

  11. When I read this post I was a little surprised too. But before I started judging, I realized that i do not know this woman or her family AT ALL, let alone the reasons for a very important, personal decision. You gave us one small piece of an enormous decision. Judging when you have all the details is hardly productive, let alone in a case when you know virtually none of the details.

    Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your life with us. I am very different from you, but have learned so much from what you share on here!

  12. Inducement is a very normal practice. Especially when it is within the full-term limits which is usually only when a doctor would be willing to induce. Anyone who says it is silly and immature to be having children in this case is too harsh and judgmental to be having children in my opinion!
